Description

Magnificent bold and graphic design on this fat lava glaze vase. The base color is a off-white/taupe. The handpainted abstract design is in sienna and blue-black and the interior is glazed blue-black. A very groovy design that’s vaguely tribal. Manufactured by Lapid Pottery Works in Israel. The art director was Elisabeth Cohen-Silberschmidt, a German immigrant.

The objects manufactured at Lapid were hand-painted, mostly by women, as piecework. In order to demonstrate how much money was due, each completed item was signed on the base by the worker.

In this case, the vase is signed in Hebrew. It measures 6.75 inches tall. Mint condition. Late 1960s.
