Description

This form was popularized in the late 1950s by the famous Murano, Italy maker Mandruzzato. This one is a beauty. It is smaller side as these go. It is square at the mouth then expands into a multi-sided block cut into faceted planes. This design catches the light thereby appearing differently depending on the setting. It’s made using the sommerso technique of layering different colors of glass during the glassblowing process. It is a rich cobalt blue, with a very pale yellow as the second color, then a thick clear crystal base. It catches light in all the right ways. 1.7 lbs / .8 kg of art glass. The edges are crisp and the crystal is very clear. It is 7 inches tall. Unmarked and undated. On nearly invisible scratch on the side. Two inclusions introduced during fabrication. These impurities do not detract from the beauty, utility or functionality.
