This image was taken on board the vessel VOLANTE, closeup starboard side on a port tack, from on deck view looking forward from amidships to see the navigator standing at the bow with binoculars looking for a buoy on the starboard side, view of vertical striped jib and spinnaker, expanse of water and sky to starboard.

VOLANTE was a 47 foot John G. Alden auxiliary cutter design built by the Casey Boat Building Company of Fairhaven, Massachusetts in 1938. This image was published in the book A CENTURY UNDER SAIL, text by Stanley Rosenfeld, p. 157-159.
