Offered here is the original vernacular typography poster for the 1953 showing of “War Arrow” with Maureen O’Hara, “Here Come the Girls” with Bob Hope, and “Roman Holiday” with Gregory Peck and Audrey Hepburn. 18 x 26 inches as framed in black wood.
It’s worth noting that this showing was in January. Today, Greenport is a seasonal tourist destination nearly deserted in January. I guess in 1953 there were enough full-time residents to support this many shows. Additionally, there was the Sky-Way drive-in less than a mile away.
We have a large collection of original movie posters offered for sale. They include advertisements for the Greenport, NY (North Fork, Long Island) movie theater on Front Street which is down the block from our shop. These robust designs were composed using wood type and individually printed on manual offset platen presses one color at a time. The earliest one is 1926, but most are from the 1950-1970. If the original poster has sold, we offer excellent full-size reproductions printed on archival paper.
Note: this is the original poster.
