Original art by Despina Myriokefalitaki-Zografos, 2019. This image is a made from layers of Despina’s intricate hand-cut paper artworks over a cyanotype. The cyanotype technique requires exposing the sensitized paper to light then fixing it with a coating to arrest the image development. As a result, each of Despina’s cyanotypes are unique. 10 x 10 inch artwork in a custom silvered frame.
From the artist: “The inspiration for this body of work was a picture of my shadow pushing my twin’s stroller. ‘Stoller-o-ptera’ is an autoschediastic word pursuant to Lepidoptera an order of insects that include butterflies. The notion of transformation is inherent to butterflies and motherhood is a transformative experience. In addition the process of paper cutting transform the paper to a lace like surface.”
