We don’t often feature antiques or folk art but this spectacular example of Americana is just too good. The color. The simple design. The patina. If you din’t know what it was, you’d think it was an abstract sculpture. Everything comes together perfectly. We recently saw the Jasper Johns show in NYC — this piece would fit right in.
It’s 22 inches in diameter. The condition is rough but stable. We added new hanging hardware and reinforced it a bit. We prefer not to restore this type of artifact. The arrow spinner functions but we intentionally tightened it a bit to keep it from swinging around. It has a number stamped on it “1901.” Is that old? I bet it’s from the 1950s.
