Description

A playful depiction of a seal pup sitting on its back executed in satin black Alvastone post-mounted to a matte white painted wood base. This piece was made in the 1980s by Alva Museum Replicas of Long Island City, NY based on a sculpture by Joan Binney Hagen Ross of Essex CT. It has a small repair to the back of the seal’s little head. The base has paint chips. We left it as found. It’s important to note that this version of the sculpture is the earliest, in a satin black finish. Later versions were polished to a high gloss. Alvastone is similar to soapstone, an extremely heavy and durable material. 11 × 11 × 6 inches. Shipping cost reflects the weight.
