By E. L. Trouvelot. During the course of his life (1827-1895) E. L. Trouvelot produced about 7,000 astronomical illustrations, some using the 26-inch refractor of the U.S. Naval Observatory. Fifteen of his most superb pastel illustrations were published by Charles Scribner’s Sons in 1881. This piece was originally done in 1877.
