Description

This impressively sized pale beige collectible has a finely grained structure that contrasts with stylized sgraffito abstract landscape around the corpus of the vase. Manufactured by Lapid Pottery Works in Israel. The art director was Elisabeth Cohen-Silberschmidt, a German immigrant. The objects manufactured at Lapid were hand-painted, mostly by women, as piecework. In order to demonstrate how much money was due, each completed item was signed on the base by the worker. In this case, the vase is signed “Lapid Israel Yoal.” It measures almost nine inches tall and eight inches wide. The shape is almost round—the four sides are ever-so slightly flattened or squared. Very heavy. Black interior. Mint condition.
