Magnificent bold and graphic design on this fat lava glaze vase from Lapid Israel. The base color is a off-white/taupe. The glazed design is in the darkest gray-blue, almost black. Brilliant. Manufactured by Lapid Pottery Works in Israel. The art director was Elisabeth Cohen-Silberschmidt, a German immigrant. The objects manufactured at Lapid were hand-painted, mostly by women, as piecework. In order to demonstrate how much money was due, each completed item was signed on the base by the worker. In this case, the vase is signed “Lapid Israel Mavh.” It measures almost 12 inches tall. Very heavy. Black interior. Mint condition. Late 1960s.
