Breathtaking. This is the nicest little piece of handmade stoneware you’ll ever see. Incredibly subtle feldspar glaze. Super-thin edges. Perfect sensuous form. The style is called Aro and it comes in several sizes, mostly larger ones. I’ve never seen a smaller one. Collectible, to say the least. This piece is from before 1955 when Nylund left Rörstrand. Very small size emphasizes the difficulty in making such a work of art. No wonder Gunnar Nylund is considered Sweden’s most talented pottery and ceramics designer.
Signed and marked Rörstrand Aro. Just under 4 inches tip to tip. Some tiny production flaws in the glaze on the rim—too small to photograph. We photographed it several ways as the color seems to change depending on the light and the setting. Dark charcoal gray with khaki-tinted matte feldspar glaze.
