Description

An early work by the master color theory expert and painter Josef Albers. This 1926 work entitled Aufwärts (Upward) Rising on Transparent Blue was done during his time teaching at the Bauhaus in Dessau, Germany. He experimented with glass during this period. This piece is a sandblasted glass panel with black paint added.

What’s notable is how similar this painting is to the work of his new bride at the time: Annie Albers née Fleischmann.
