Description

Offered here is a magnificent and unusual five-sided faceted block vase by Luigi Mandruzzato, Murano Italy. These heavy art glass vessel sculptures are very collectible, particularly the early ones by Luigi. This fine piece still has the label, leading us to infer that it was displayed, not used. The label puts its manufacture date in the late 1950s or early 1960s before Luigi turned the business over to his son Gianfranco. The primary color is a reddish-brown often referred to as amethyst. The secondary sommerso color is bright yellow. The casing is clear crystal. Describing the colors however is rather arbitrary as it refracts light into many different colors, some pale, some rich and dark. These block vases are almost always four sided at the top. This pentagonal form is quite rare. Pro tip: we group several block vases together to form a table top sculpture.
