Offered here is a monumental cold cast relief panel signed “Giovanni Schoeman, 1975.” South African Giovanni Schoeman (1940-1981) studied in Johannesburg, London, and Milan. He used cold-cast bronze technique to fabricate richly detailed sculptures and reliefs in the 1960s and 1970s.
He has works in the British Museum and many corporate and private collections. He was murdered at 41 in Santa Barbara, CA. The mysterious case remains unsolved. This work is 49 × 17 × 1½ inches and has posts to mount it so that it floats away from the wall.
This untitled abstract panel is 87% nickel, 13% resin. It is very heavy so professional installation is recommended. I can recommend an art installer who can do it for customers in the NY, CT, or NJ. It can be mounted vertically or horizontally.
Schoeman’s work is very, very similar to the sculptural relief panels done by Ron Hitchins (aka Ron Hitchens), also from England, also working in the 1960s and 1970s. Curious.
