Description

William Spratling Taxco Mexico Sterling Ebony Butter Dish Knife: Offered is a signed William Spratling sterling and ebony butter dish and knife set made in Taxco, Mexico. The American Spratling was a pioneer in modern design. Mexico silver is very good quality and the labor cost is low, so he set up his workshop in Taxco Mexico where he produced jewelry and tableware in the Mid-Century. His designs are very collectible and some are quite rare.

This set is just, well, breathtaking. I love the bold arrow design on the knife! Solid sterling silver and dark rich ebony. It has typical age-related wear. It was in production from 1951 – 1967. The catalog # is MANT-1A. The dish is 9 5/6″ x 2 7/8″. This design was included in the traveling museum exhibit “The World of William Spratling” which toured the U.S. in 1965.
