After the original 1956 Greenport Theatre poster. Greenport is on Long Island, New York locally known as the North Fork.
Offered here is a fine art reproduction of the original poster printed on 100% rag archival paper to preserve it for decades to come. The vintage lobby cards are composed in wood type then hand printed in small numbers on heavy card stock. Very few originals remain as they were considered disposable. They are the standard size, 14 × 22 inches, to fit displays that were installed in the theatre, in nearby restaurants, and on exterior walls around town. They were manually replaced whenever the movie changed. This version is 17½ × 25¼ inches in a custom white wood frame, ready to hang.
“Safari” is a 1956 British colour film, directed by Terence Young and set during the (then contemporary) Mau Mau Uprising in Kenya. Starring Victor Mature, Janet Leigh, Roland Culver, John Justin and Earl Cameron.
“Somebody Up There Likes Me” starring Paul Newman is a 1956 American drama film based on the life of middleweight boxing legend Rocky Graziano.
“Picnic”, 1955, was adapted for the screen from William Inge’s 1953 Pulitzer Prize-winning play. It stars William Holden, Kim Novak, and Rosalind Russell. It was nominated for six Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won two.
