25-072 America Schooner Yacht Model Drawing 32 x 22

$195.00

Printed in 1967, this diagram depicts the construction details for the Schooner Yacht “America” designed by George Steers in 1851. The drawing was published by Model Shipways, a schematic sold to model-building enthusiasts. Fascinating. The drawing originally appeared in the book “Maretts Yacht Building” published in 1856. This is the original vintage print with folds and signs of wear from handling. 32 x 22 inches as framed in black wood.

America was a 19th-century racing yacht and first winner of the America’s Cup international sailing trophy. She was launched on May 3, 1851, from the Brown shipyard, near Eleventh Street, East River, New York. She cost $30,000 (equivalent to $1,133,880 in 2024). America was one of only four ships in service in the U.S. Navy in both the Civil War and World War II.

The first replica of America was built by Goudy & Stevens Shipyard in Boothbay, Maine, and launched in 1967: the same year as the drawing offered here.
