Description
This was carved by a relative who was a member of a craft league in Michigan. The folk art style is charming and the carving is quite competent. The shore bird stands on a piece of driftwood. It is exquisitely stained to mimic the birds coloration in a simplified stylistic manner. Very Mid-Century Modern in style. The League gathered weekly in the 1950s. This piece has stood guard over my aunt’s dining room for decades. Now it is ready to spend time with another family. 12 × 12 inches. Perfect for the coastal home decor and it is quite similar to the Piping Plover we see nesting on our beaches here in the North Fork.
