Ray featured in New York Times

By News and Views

The New York Times did a great piece on the North Fork. “36 Hours / North Fork / Long Island” appeared October 26, 2023.

Recommendations / Shopping and galleries: “RAY is an exquisitely curated shop with Matisse prints, Murano glass and retro-style North Fork travel posters”

Itinerary… Discover the gems of Greenport: The mom-and-pop-shop vibe is on full display on Front Street: RAY is a trove of art and décor mostly from the 1950s to 1980s…”

Yes, We Can Ship That.

Basic small and mid-size shipping costs have risen dramatically, regardless of the vendor. Additionally, new rates affect distance, size, and weight. Here’s what we learned the hard way:

2024 Fonts in Use

By News and Views

We periodically update the design of our website. In 2024, we retired the font Hepta Slab in favor of Piazzolla. Designed by Juan Pablo del Peral for Huerta Tipográfica, Argentina. The font’s name is a tribute to Astor Piazzolla, an Argentine musician, composer and the central figure of the style called Nuevo Tango.

We paired it with Athiti, designed by Cadson Demak, a type foundry in Thailand. Athiti is a Thai word for the Sun. The sun is a part of the Ray brand image.

Why is Murano Glass Expensive and Rare?

By News and Views

According to a recent Washington Post article, the island of Murano is having trouble keeping their furnaces going due to the increase in the cost of fuel. The furnaces cannot be turned on and off because the cost to restart them is very high. They burn 24 hours a day—they only shut down in August for maintenance. If Murano has fewer operational furnaces, they will produce less art glass, and eventually glass makers will close shop. The remaining makers will raise prices to offset the huge increase that fuel has incurred lately. Switching to alternative fuel is a good option for the future, but that will take massive investment and will take a very long time to make the conversions.

Ray Greenport Website Now Has 2,000 Items

By News and Views

We have reached a milestone. Our website now has 2,000 items and is growing every day. Not all of these items are for sale. When an item sells, we move it to an archive titled “Sold.” This provides our audience with a deep database of the types of items we like. Since every item has a detailed caption, this archive also provides students and researchers a place to fact check information about Mid-Century Modern objects. We try very hard to provide accurate information and high quality photos for this purpose. We photograph every object in several views and always provide a ruler in the photo to offer size information. Most people (70% of Google searches) find us by keyword searching internet images, not text. Interesting. We had over 50,000 page views last month (May 2021).
