Description
Magnificent bold and graphic design on this fat lava glaze vase. The base color is a sandy color. The hand painted abstract design is in blue then blue-black with yellow accents and the interior is glazed blue-black. Manufactured by Lapid Pottery Works in Israel. The art director was Elisabeth Cohen-Silberschmidt, a German immigrant. The objects manufactured at Lapid were hand-painted, mostly by women, as piecework. In order to demonstrate how much money was due, larger items were usually signed on the base by the worker. In this case, the vase is signed in simply “Lapid Israel.” It measures 4¾ inches tall. Mint condition. Late 1960s.
