Storm Trysail Race, 1959
Offset lithograph of a photograph by Morris Rosenfeld, Rosenfeld and Sons, taken on May 29, 1959 during the Storm Trysail Club Race.
This image was taken on board the vessel VOLANTE, closeup starboard side on a port tack, from on deck view looking forward from amidships to see the navigator standing at the bow with binoculars looking for a buoy on the starboard side, view of vertical striped jib and spinnaker, expanse of water and sky to starboard.
VOLANTE was a 47 foot John G. Alden auxiliary cutter design built by the Casey Boat Building Company of Fairhaven, Massachusetts in 1938. This image was published in the book A CENTURY UNDER SAIL, text by Stanley Rosenfeld, p. 157-159.
Morris Rosenfeld was the leading yachting photographer of the 20th Century. He captured artistic images that convey the authentic feeling of large vessel sailing.
