Vigorous brushwork, confident palette knife work, and bold composition—the hallmarks of an accomplished artist. Then why did they not sign it? Some artists work for their own edification. Perhaps this artist was not interested in the public’s opinion. It is painted on canvas, then mounted to masonite, then firmly attached to a wood frame. We added a new white hardwood float frame. The framed dimension is 35 x 15 inches. We have it displayed horizontally. It looks good vertically too. Some viewers have commented that it looks like a row of blue cottages along a rocky beach with yellow sand? There is damage to the back of the masonite but does not affect the painting. Some missing paint here and there as is typical of artwork in this medium and of this age. We cleaned it to remove the patina of age which brightened the colors considerably. Circa 1950s.
