Rare large 1950s “Trio” console bowl by Hjördis Oldfors for the maker Upsala–Ekeby, Sweden. Heavy earthenware in matte black with white and yellow lines in glossy glaze. Marked on the bottom. Length 13½, width 8 inches.This piece has a very satisfying sculptural form and the bold design is a stand-out. “Trio” line was produced from 1954 until 1958. In excellent vintage condition with no cracks, chips or repairs. The glaze is a little lighter in the very center of the bowl interior in a few spots, most likely formed during firing. A gallery favorite. We often wonder why Sweden has so many successful female makers?
