Description
Original watercolor painting on paper by Shelter Island artist Leah Peeks, 2021. Titled “Lake Michigan II, Glen Lake.”
Peeks drew inspiration from the Washington D.C. Color School painters of the 1950s, especially Sam Gilliam, while she was living in Virginia. This artwork is distinctive because of the way the pattern responds to the viewer’s eye. A sense of movement, an awareness of the near-perfect but also not-perfect design. It is float mounted in a minimalist white matte wood frame faced with gallery acrylic. The overall framed size is 30×37 inches. Signed on the back.
