22-289 Toros en Vallauris 1955 Original Picasso Poster
The town of Vallauris commissioned a few posters by Pablo Picasso, their resident artist, to promote their annual bullfights and ceramics exhibition. This vintage 1955 exhibition poster printed by Mourlot Freres is a smaller lithograph after the original larger linocut. “Toros en Vallauris 1955” (“Bulls in Vallauris 1955”). Signed Picasso twice in the plate. Sheet size 15¾ × 20 matted in 8-ply museum board, 22 × 27 inches as framed in matte white. Note: this is not a contemporary reproduction. It is a vintage poster with slight age toning and signs of handling. The Met in NYC has the original linocut in its collection. Picasso had a small studio in the Mourlot print shop that he used during his experimentation with the lithographic medium.
