23-173DC Braque “White Bird on Blue” 1958 Original

$6,000.00

Oiseau blanc sur fond bleu” (“White Bird on Blue”) poster by Georges Braque, 1958. This poster, an original vintage silkscreen print, was produced by the French publisher Nouvelles Images, an art lithographer associated with museums. This poster is unusually large. It measures 60 × 47 inches. If framed as shown, the overall size would be a monumental 74 × 61 inches. We recommend a 5 inch 8-ply mat and a gold frame. The condition is typical for works on paper of this age. There is a missing corner, some small edge tears, and a bit of age toning. This original poster was stored flat, without exposure to light, since the 1980s. The mat will cover the distressed edges. A rare find indeed. Signed in the plate. Unknown edition. Marked bottom left “AG1 – Georges Braque – © ADAGP – Editions des Nouvelles Images – 45 Lombreuil – printed in France.”

Note: we’re offering the original vintage print, not a reproduction. Contact us to discuss framing options (included in this price) and to arrange white glove delivery and installation (additional charge).

Georges Braque was a major 20th-century French painter, collagist, draughtsman, printmaker and sculptor. His most notable contributions were in his alliance with Fauvism from 1905, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. (Wikipedia) In 1953 he was commissioned to paint the ceiling of a small library room in the Louvre. He chose to do birds on a blue sky. He explored this motif dozens of times.
