23-176 Still Life 1976 Jater Wood Block Print

Still life woodcut. Club de Grabado de Montevideo distributed prints by well-known artists as part of a government program to increase awareness of art and culture. These limited edition wood block prints are now collector’s items. Montevideo is the capital of Uruguay and was a meeting place for abstract artists many of whom were trained in Europe. This original print measures 20×16 inches as framed in matte black aluminum. It is by Melquiades Jater and is titled “Centro de mesa y frutas.” Printed in Uruguay, 1976. Signed and marked with the edition number 293/3000.

Marked on the verso: «Centro de mesa y frutas» xilografia de MELQUIADES JATER, realizada expresamente para CLUB DE GRABADO DE MONTEVIDEO y seleccionada en el Concurso Interno para Artistas Gráficos de la institución. El artista utilizó por su orden el azul, el rojo y el amarillo sobre tacos de madera. (Then a short artist bio.)
