23-218 Stanley Ballard 1960s Blue Bowl

$255.00

Based in Burlington Vermont, Stanley Streeter Ballard (1917-1960) was a very well regarded and prolific studio pottery artist. He trained at Alfred University, considered the best ceramics department in America. His work is daringly simple at a time when decoration was the prevailing style. He uses just a few pale glaze colors, often with a darker “chocolate” rim. His workshop made fine porcelain vessels and functional tableware usually signed “S. Ballard, Vermont” and most of our collection has the form number etched on the bottom as well. Some have the original paper label. Circa 1946-1960. RISD Museum has one of his pieces in their collection.

This example is in the robin’s egg blue color with the trademark chocolate edge. 11 inches at the widest point. Terrific atomic biomorphic shape. No flaws.
