23-277 Joan Miró 1970s Exhibition Poster 23×37

$1,200.00

Offered here is a rare 1970s Joan Miró silkscreen exhibition poster. We have not been able to find this poster online. 1950s and 1960s Miró posters for exhibits at the Galerie Maeght in Paris were similar. This poster has no markings that identify the gallery, museum, or publisher. The ink is printed in solid colors, not 4-color process. It may have been done on a lithographic press, but most likely was pulled as a silkscreen print. The size is 23 x 37 inches as framed. Very fine condition. Framed in black wood.

We received this poster from someone who worked at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the early 1970s. This poster may have been a printer’s sample. Printer’s were soliciting business from the Met in order to become the favorite vendor to supply posters for their gift shop. This poster was most likely a sample provided to prove quality.

The Spanish artist Joan Miró (1893-1983) was a prolific artist associated with Surrealism. He was notable for his interest in the unconscious or the subconscious mind, reflected in his re-creation of the childlike. His work is in private collections and museums worldwide, including the Fundació Joan Miró in Barcelona.
