23-344DC Marcus Behmer Verlöschende Kerze Poster 22×29

Original price was: $750.00.Current price is: $495.00.

Peter Max Productions produced this art poster depicting the 1903 illustration by Marcus Behmer, “Verlöschende Kerze” (Dying candle) that originally illustrated Oscar Wilde’s Salome. This work was part of a collection of posters acquired on a trip to Europe in 1973. It is 22×29 inches, currently unframed. Condition is good. Several faint areas of tape residue as shown in the photos.

Behmer’s early works show the strong influence of the illustrative art of Aubrey Beardsley, which later allowed some negative assessments of his work as imitative, though he soon developed his own artistic language parallel to the rise of Expressionism and the new currents of the Wiener Werkstätte.
