23-374DC KG Brücke Kirchner 1971 Exhibit Poster 23×33
$495.00
An exhibition poster featuring a reproduction of a color woodcut of a mother and child by Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, the German expressionist. The Brücke (Bridge), also Künstlergruppe Brücke or KG Brücke, was a group of German expressionist artists formed in Dresden in 1905. “The Brücke artists’ emotionally agitated paintings of city streets and sexually charged events transpiring in country settings made their French counterparts, the Fauves, seem tame by comparison.” (Artspoke, Robert Atkins, 1993).
This poster is actually an exhibit poster within an exhibit poster. The Galerie Arnold on Shlossstrasse is where The Kirchner and other KG Brücke artists were exhibited circa 1905, labeled Gärtnersche Druckerei. Signed “E L Kirchner” in the plate.
This poster, printed in 1971, was for a show at the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum in Köln. The subtitle of the show is “maler suchen freunde (painters searching for friends). Jahresmappen, Plakate, Kataloge und andere werbende Graphik der “Brücke”. (Annual brochures, posters, catalogs and other promotional graphics of der Brücke.”
