$750.00
Gustav Nilson (1897-1988) studied poster design in Vienna, Austria and Berlin, Germany before emigrating to the U.S. He lived in Bucks County PA and created artwork for many of New York’s advertising agencies. This early work was signed by the artist in 1979. It is an original hand-painted gouache maquette for a poster titled “LUF AG / Luftfahrzeug aktiengesellschaft (Airplanes Incorporated)” circa 1920. It features excellent hand-lettered typography in German. This design was transferred by hand to a lithographic stone by a technician for printing. Remarkable early advertising style and technique. 21×28 inches as framed in silver gilt wood.
