24-250 Fernand Léger Water Offset Lithograph 22 x 22

$625.00

From the series “The Four Elements: Water, Air, Fire & Earth.” published in the December 1937 Editions De La Revue Verve, Paris—the very first issue. Verve is a quite rare and special publication featuring specially commissioned midcentury modern art and essays. They were extremely well printed, with each color plate “tipped in” — a printing technique allowing different lithographic methods to be used for each artwork. In this edition, the editors commissioned four artists to do each of the elements: Fernand Léger (water), Joan Miró (air), Abraham Rattner (fire) and Francisco Bores (earth). Offered here is an offset reproduction done in France in 1987 as part of a publication documenting Verve. Signed in the plate, verso text.

Léger (1881-1955) was a French artist often referred to as one of the founders of Pop Art. He often depicted the intersection between nature and the industrialized world.
