In 1972 Warhol made “Sunset,” a commission by the architecture firm Johnson & Burgee, to decorate the landmark Hotel Marquette in Minneapolis. The series had 632 different color variations—a different one for each room of the hotel. The sunset photo was taken from Warhol’s Montauk, NY house, a short distance from our gallery.
