$1,195.00

Vintage (undated) Mid-Century serigraph “Great Wall of China” signed by Nancy Sussman Ranson, numbered 9/24, 21 x 13 inches. The small edition silkscreen prints are remarkably vibrant and nuanced, with a technical proficiency that is astonishing.

Nancy Sussman Ranson (Brooklyn, 1905-1993) was a visual artist whose work reflected her deep interest in foreign countries and cultures. Nancy devoted herself to her vocation during a period in American history when gender was an impediment to commercial success in fine arts. She received a two-year certificate from Pratt Institute in 1926 and a BFA in 1974 when she was 69. She also pursued additional study at the Brooklyn Museum of Art School and The Art Student’s League. She is a MacDowell Fellow and her work is in the permanent collection of Harvard’s Fogg Museum, The Museum of the City of New York, Brandeis University, The University of Maine, The Norfolk Art Museum, and the national museums of Jerusalem, New Delhi, Tokyo, Sydney, and Peking. Her papers are housed in the Smithsonian Archive of American Art. Ranson died in 1993, in Brooklyn, at the age of 87.
