New acquisition: “Ravine” by Wesley Lea (American, 1914–1981) a New York School abstract expressionist painting rich with texture. It measures 23 x 29 inches as framed by the artist in white wood. The painting is in good condition: some very small areas of loose paint, a repair to the back of the canvas, and a bit of discoloring from age. Priced accordingly. Signed bottom center “Leah ’60”. It’s signed and titled on the back, with the original 1960 price of $200.
Lea lived in Frenchtown NJ, an area known for many artists and galleries in New Hope PA. He exhibited at the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the Corcoran Gallery of Art, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
