An original circa 1960s limited edition (5/100) lithograph titled “Girl in Red” by Raphael Soyer (Russian, 1899-1987). This edition was commissioned by Associated American Artists in New York. Signed in pencil. It measures 22 x 26 inches. It’s currently unframed. It was sold in 1960 for $150 as indicated by the typewritten label on the back — equivalent to $1,637 in today’s dollars. Age-related toning to the paper, no tears or repairs.
Soyer is associated with the Social Realism movement. He attended Cooper Union in NYC where he met Chaim Gross, his lifelong friend. In 1967 the Whitney Museum of American Art exhibited a retrospective of his work. His work is included in many public museum collections including the National Gallery of Art, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Whitney Museum of American Art, Hirshhorn Museum, among others.
