The island of Murano, Italy, just beyond the canals of Venice, has many many glassmakers that produce fine decorative objet large and small. Their magnificent chandeliers can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. Most visitors return from Murano with a paperweight or small glass egg or marble. They are popular because they are stunningly beautiful up close. the complex glass blowing techniques make them true miniature works of art. From “millefiori” (thousand flowers) to “latticino filigrana” (latticework filagree) the designs are truly spectacular.
